The Chain of Life Challenge is celebrating its 10th anniversary. In October, hundreds of people will simultaneously climb some 15 mountains in Quebec to celebrate life and highlight the importance of organ and tissue donation education in schools. Join the movement and take part in this activity filled with hope!
This year, we are proud to honour the volunteer police officers from the Canadian Organ and Tissue Donors Association (CODA). As a vital link in the pre-hospital intervention chain, they play a role that is little known to the public.
Officers from a dozen police forces and Contrôle routier Québec volunteer their time at all hours of the day or night to transport organs. When they receive a call from Transplant Québec requesting an organ transport, these volunteers drop everything on the spot to carry out this delicate, life-saving mission that helps save lives.
On the weekend of October 12, 13 and 14, and again on October 19 and 20, during the Chain of Life Challenge, come and pay tribute to their humanity and their exceptional sense of duty. In each region, volunteer police officers will act as flag-bearers in support of Chain of Life's mission to educate young people about organ and tissue donation in the classroom.
“I’m very involved in organ transport because one of my cousins has cystic fibrosis. Nineteen years ago, she underwent a double-lung transplant. Today, she's very much alive and has a daughter. Without all the efforts promoting organ donation, many lives would be lost. That's why the Chain of Life Program on organ and tissue donation education for young people is essential.”
– Vincent Gravel, volunteer police officer and flagbearer for the Mauricie region
“Real, tangible things that make THE difference for people waiting for a better quality of life. Being part of this chain of various actors makes me proud of all the work accomplished.”
– Cathie-Anne Frigon, volunteer police officer and flagbearer for the Laurentides
You, too, can become a link in the chain of life by taking part in the 2024 Chain of Life Challenge in your region. By registering to climb a mountain near you, or by making a donation, you will be not only helping Chain of Life continue to expand its education program in Quebec secondary schools, but you will also be sending a message of hope to those waiting for a transplant.
