For the past several years, race car driver, Vincent Berthiaume, has stood out for his involvement in Chain of Life. Touched by its cause, he now wants to invite other athletes to become ambassadors for organ and tissue donation awareness in their respective sports environments.
Upon receiving encouragement from his racing team, Vincent has been doing just that. As a member of the 9451 Competition race team, he proudly reaches out to motorsports fans to promote the Chain of Life program. Chain of Life also encourages people of all ages to adopt healthy habits and to take care of that priceless gift— their health.
This 19 year old, who is currently studying techniques in Mechanical Engineering, has been a champion on the racetrack since he was very young. He has won 29 finals in multiple divisions. Most recently, he was crowned Sportsman Champion for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons at the BSL Speedway. He will begin the 2022 season in the Modified category and travel around Quebec as a rookie in this new division.
Organ and tissue donation is very important to Vincent and his family. Since the age of 14, his parents have made him aware of the importance of considering this option, for both him and for themselves. A close friend of Vincent's had it bad a few years ago. His failing health required a bone marrow transplant. This event was instrumental in Vincent's decision to become involved in the Chain of Life program. He knows that organ and tissue donation saves lives. He has witnessed it first hand.
Vincent takes every opportunity he has to inform racing fans about the benefits of organ and tissue donation education. He and his team have been racing cars with the Chain of Life logo since 2021. They have also started up awareness evenings as part of racing programs. In addition, the team members help organize the Chain of Life Challenge in the Lower St. Lawrence region and participate in the collection of funds to support this charitable organization.
Thanks to Vincent and his team, Chain of Life has good visibility with the racing media. Active in social media, the team also contributes to raising awareness for Chain of Life in the world of motorsports, a world where fans are known for their generosity and their spirit of mutual aid. Vincent hopes to encourage other drivers to become organ and tissue donation ambassadors, just like him.
