Josianne Sirois
Hi,
I witnessed the very beginnings of the tremendous work that has been accomplished over all these years. Meeting Kristopher Knowles, a boy who was waiting for a transplant, had a profound impact on our class. That experience stayed with me and has shaped me ever since. In the early days of the project, I also had the opportunity to meet families of both donors and recipients, and each time, I was deeply struck by the importance of organ donation.
I believe teenagers are ideally placed to start these conversations. Experiencing Chain of Life at school, surrounded by friends and in an environment that encourages openness, is, in my view, a powerful way to carry these conversations forward. Beyond organ donation, the health component, which focuses on taking care of our bodies, these powerful machines, is just as important.
I gladly accepted the role of flag bearer because this cause has been close to my heart since the very beginning of Chain of Life. We must also continue to educate people and talk about the tremendous impact that one donation can have.
Organ donation is such an important topic to discuss as a family. These conversations allow us to make an informed decision, make our wishes known and better prepare our families, who have an essential role to play when the time comes. Chain of Life is a family, a community where openness to dialogue and listening to others bring a deeply human dimension to this important issue.
I deeply believe in the importance and impact of this initiative for society. Now that I am a teacher myself, I know that today’s young people have all the tools they need to change the world. Let’s be there to support them!
Josianne
