Hi,
My name is Lizanne Girouard, and I teach Secondary IV and V students at Monique-Proulx Secondary School in the Centre-du-Québec region. For nearly ten years, I have had the privilege of teaching the Chain of Life Program as part of my English as a Second Language classes, a program centred on organ and tissue donation that is very close to my heart.
My commitment to this program began after I completed the essential training offered free of charge by Lucie Dumont and her team, who generously came to our school service centre. That training marked the starting point of an extraordinary human and educational journey.
As a teacher, I am constantly seeking ways to inspire my students, to encourage them to think, and to open themselves to the world. The Chain of Life Program does all of this, and so much more. It allows them to understand, with sensitivity and authenticity, the importance of organ donation. Thanks to rich, dynamic, and well-designed material, my students come into contact with real stories, moving testimonials, and realities that speak to them. Their response is always positive: they participate, they reflect, and they talk about it with those around them. In turn, they become messengers of meaning and life.
Being a flag bearer for the 2025 Chain of Life Challenge is an immense honour. For me, it is a way to proudly represent my region, but above all to reaffirm my commitment to education. Because I deeply believe that school is the first link in the chain of life. It is through education that awareness is born, that empathy develops, and that a more humane society is built.
Supporting this cause also means carrying hope, the hope that one day, every student who walks through our doors will understand that their engagement can save lives.

The Key Links in the Chain of Life
The key links in the chain of life are doctors, nurses, transplant recipients, donor families, teachers, students, distinguished climbers, public figures and many others... who join forces to create a movement uniting all those touched directly or indirectly by organ and tissue donation.
The day of the event

Mountain Climbing and Waiting for a Transplant: What a Parallel!
Participants in the Chain of Life Challenge carry the flag to the top of a mountain in their region.
Waiting for a transplant is a bit like climbing a mountain. Both require preparation, fortitude, determination, perseverance and, most of all, support — the climber needs strong climbing partners and the person waiting for an organ needs a reliable support network. Both are real challenges. This is why the mountain has become one of the symbols associated with Chain of Life.
By planting the Chain of Life flag at the top of a mountain, we are not only showing our solidarity for organ and tissue donation, but we are also helping send a message of hope to all those waiting for a transplant in Quebec and elsewhere.
