Student reactions to the CHAIN OF LIFE project

Since its official launch in 2014, the pedagogical unit "Celebrating Life" has been taught in many classrooms across Quebec. The positive comments confirm the success of the project and the importance of continuing our mission to reach as many young people as possible.

"I personally liked the stories, because they helped me form an opinion on organ donation."

"It’s rare to come across this topic in everyday conversation, so it’s important to make us aware of it. Plus, it’s different from the other units."

"We don’t talk about that with our friends or at home. It’s a good idea to present this subject in class."

"The most important thing has been to make me pay attention to taking care of my health, and to talk to my parents."

"It really helped me make a decision. Before my English class, I had never heard anyone talk about organ donation."

"This unit made me change my mind. To be able to save lives after my death would be amazing. In my opinion, all students in Quebec should do this unit."

"I now understand the importance of signing my medical insurance card, and especially the necessity to talk to my family. The texts and videos marked me. In short, CHAIN OF LIFE is, in my opinion, a wonderful activity in raising awareness."

"Before talking about this in my English class, I was hesitant… but now, it’s clear."

"Because of this unit, organ donation is now a discussion subject with my family and friends and now I look at myself and just go like, Girl, you’re so lucky! Never forget that, no matter what."

A Few Comments from Teachers

"I have to say that never before in all my career have I seen the students so     attentive and engaged. I had the privilege of attending a training session given by Lucie Dumont and her colleagues. For me, this training session was full of emotion, because I gained more than knowledge; I gained the desire to change things. Rarely in my career have I had the opportunity to use such a valuable and meaningful tool. The message conveyed to my students in this unit is that this is bigger than me, and all of us.

It is essential that this training be given all across Quebec, so that every teacher can pass on this message of hope to their students. How to become an engaged citizen, how to be generous by giving of yourself and the celebration of the human body. Lucie has empowered me to deliver this positive and engaging message, and for that, I will eternally be grateful."

"There is currently nothing that compares to this in terms of how profound the content is for students of this age. This learning package is unifying, brilliant, current and it develops language learning while reflecting on a reality to which no one can remain indifferent. The addition of technology brings added value to this wonderfully elaborate educational unit."

"Working with CHAIN OF LIFE has been an incredible teaching experience for me. Not only the material provided was perfectly adapted to Secondary IV students, but it was also highly interesting. It forced students to think about the value of their lives by encouraging them to have a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, it made them realize that they could help people in need of an organ transplant and change their lives forever. A unit filled with useful information, great stories, sometimes tears, but foremost, changes of mind. Thank you for this wonderful gift!"
